A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four early opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
